Water softener

A water softener is a device that reduces the hardness of water by exchanging calcium and magnesium ions in the water for sodium or potassium ions. It works through special resins that are loaded with salt, which allows positive particles (calcium and magnesium) to attach to negative particles (resin). The positive ions are then replaced by the negative ions of the salt, which softens the water.
