How do I install a toilet?

Toilet Installation Tip

Here are the different steps to install your toilet:

  1. Determine the location of the toilet. You may want to consult with a plumber about where to place your new toilet and how to install drain pipes correctly.
  2. Gather the tools you need to install the toilet, such as a hacksaw, wrench, appropriate bolts and plugs, tape, and rubber or silicone gaskets.
  3. Remove the tank cover from the existing bowl if it is still installed and disconnect the trap and hot and cold water supply pipes connected to the faucet located on the wall behind the existing toilet. If you are installing a completely new unit, remove the old toilet completely and then thoroughly clean the space around its previous location so that nothing gets in the way of mounting your new unit.
  4. Connect a flexible gasket to each end of the hot and cold water lines supplying your sink before mounting the fittings to the water inlets located on the side of the upper or lower tank (depending on models). Then firmly attach these fittings with a Phillips screwdriver or multi-socket pliers as provided by the manufacturer.
  5. Once the connections are made, set up the tank/bowl assembly by carefully aligning the holes made in the tank with those located on the ground. Then use an electric drill to securely fix the unit to the ground with suitable screws.
  6. Now install the matching toilet bowl, make sure to align it with its counterpart inserted on the floor to facilitate its final assembly. Then tighten all the bolts supplied by manufacturers securely until you obtain a stable position without any possible play or oscillation!
  7. Now connect the automatic maintenance of the chosen system: direct flush / double flush / high volume filling etc… will follow depending on the type chosen, then always connect via flexible flexible joints for greater long-term comfort!
  8. Then thoroughly test any installation performed; Make sure that no leak remains after manual activation and then durrrable test via successive fillings!
